How to Create a Vision Board in 6 Simple Steps
A vision board is more than a collage — it’s a visual roadmap for your dreams. When created with intention, it can help you gain clarity, stay focused, and align your daily actions with the life you want to build.
In this guide, I’ll walk you through six simple steps to create a vision board that feels meaningful, personal, and inspiring — whether you’re brand new to vision boards or ready to refresh an old one.
Grab your favorite images, open your heart to possibility, and let’s begin.

What Is a Vision Board and Why It Works
A vision board is a visual representation of your goals, intentions, and dreams. Using images, words, colors, and textures, you create a collage that reflects the life you want to create.
Vision boards work because they:
- Keep your goals visible and top of mind
- Engage both creativity and intention
- Help clarify what truly matters to you
- Encourage daily alignment with your goals
When you intentionally design a 2026 vision board, you’re giving yourself a visual roadmap for the year ahead.
Step 1: Reflect on 2025 Before You Begin
Before jumping into creation, take time to reflect on the year behind you. This step is often skipped, but it’s essential.
Ask yourself:
- What worked well in 2025?
- What felt draining or misaligned?
- What lessons do I want to carry into 2026?
- What do I want more of this year?
You may want to journal these reflections or include them in a memory-keeping spread. This reflection will guide the themes of your vision board and help you set intentions rooted in growth.
Step 2: Choose a Vision Board Style That Fits Your Life
There’s no one “right” way to make a vision board. Choose a format that fits how you’ll actually use it.
Popular vision board styles include:
- Traditional poster board with magazine cutouts
- Digital vision boards created in Canva
- Art journal or planner spreads
- Mini vision boards for desks or planners
- Word-focused intention boards
If you’re a creative or memory keeper, consider layering paper, fabric, paint, or handwritten quotes for a tactile, meaningful experience.
Step 3: Define Your 2026 Focus Areas
To avoid overwhelm, break your vision into categories. This helps ensure balance and clarity.
Common vision board categories include:
- Personal growth and mindset
- Health and wellness
- Business or career goals
- Creativity and hobbies
- Home and environment
- Relationships and community
- Travel or experiences
You don’t need to include everything—focus on what feels most important for your 2026 goals and intentions.
Step 4: Gather Inspiring Images and Words
Now comes the fun part. Collect images, phrases, and symbols that spark emotion. Don’t overthink this—your intuition matters.
Look for:
- Images that feel like your future
- Words that reflect how you want to feel
- Colors that match your energy for 2026
- Quotes or affirmations that motivate you
Pro tip: Choose images that represent feelings, not just things. Instead of a picture of a house, look for imagery that represents peace, stability, or freedom.
Step 5: Assemble Your Vision Board with Intention
As you begin arranging your board, think about flow rather than perfection. Let your creativity guide you.
Tips for assembling:
- Place your most important goal in the center
- Group related goals together
- Leave space to breathe—don’t overcrowd
- Add personal touches like handwriting or paint
This process should feel calming and empowering, not rushed.
Step 6: Display and Use Your Vision Board Daily
A vision board only works if you see it regularly. Place it somewhere you’ll naturally look every day.
Ideas include:
- Your workspace or craft room
- Inside a planner or journal
- As a phone or desktop background
- On a vision board wall
Spend a few moments each day reconnecting with your intentions. This reinforces clarity and helps guide daily decisions.
Make Your 2026 Vision Board a Living Practice
Your vision board isn’t set in stone. As the year unfolds, allow it to evolve. You may add new goals, remove what no longer fits, or revisit your board during seasonal check-ins.
Creating a vision board for 2026 is about alignment, not perfection. It’s a creative act of believing in yourself and intentionally shaping the year ahead.

If you love guided creativity, printable prompts, or Canva-ready vision board templates, keep an eye out—I’ll be sharing resources to help you design a vision board that truly reflects you. I’ve included a list of supplies with links that I use on a regular basis.
Vision Board Supplies
- Poster Board or Foam Core Board (I prefer foam core board because it’s sturdy & I can lean it against something easily without it falling or bending vs just hanging it up – I like choices!)
- Vision board kits with pre-printed images – I’ve never used a pre-made kit, however, I found this book full of all types of graphics that make it easy – you can collect old magazines like I do for this project, as well
- Scrapbook paper pads – Echo Park, Simple Stories, Photo Play, 49 and Market & Carta Bella have every theme imaginable & all of them have quality double sided paper making them my top choices!
- Washi tape (neutral, metallic, or pattern) – I’ve used many different brands & love 49 and Market because they package their washi tape in a box complete with a cutter for easy tearing
- EK Success Craft scissors or Cricut Tools are fabulous!
- Glue sticks, tape or glue runner, or double-sided tape – All of these are my faves!
- Happy Planner Sticker packs with words & icons, Echo Park sticker sheets, & Simple Stories Alpha Stickers
- Sharpie Gold or metallic markers (or any color markers)
- Clear binder sleeves for planner vision boards
Here’s to a creative, intentional, and beautifully aligned 2026 ✨
